While conventional mortality datasets are often limited to deaths captured within a single jurisdiction, Veritas unifies mortality records across jurisdictional boundaries and across multiple sources to identify events that would otherwise remain undiscovered. This nationwide approach enables organizations to move beyond delayed, reactive reporting and toward proactive, real-time death notification, auditing, and verification. 90% of Veritas’s mortality records are available within two weeks of a death, ensuring that your data remains current and there is minimal delay in detecting fraud, curtailing pension payments, or paying death benefits. 

Veritas Data Research addresses critical coverage gaps left by traditional sources such as the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File (SSA DMF) by indexing more than 45,000 public data sources, including national and regional public health agencies, government aggregators, and localized points of death capture. Combined with our proprietary data network, this infrastructure delivers mortality coverage exceeding 90% nationwide (the SSA DMF has <20% coverage for comparison). Through a dedicated customer portal, annual subscribers can also view the contributing source records associated with each result, providing an unprecedented level of transparency and ability to further verify a death by viewing obituary notices directly. 

By integrating Veritas' Fact of Death mortality data into fraud detection systems, payment verification processes, master data management (MDM) and operational workflows, and compliance programs, organizations can rapidly understand when an individual in question is deceased. Veritas also supports accurate mortality reporting across clinical research, public health, and policy-driven applications where patient survival is a study endpoint that needs to be measured. The score reflects the strength, consistency, and quality of the underlying source data, allowing clients to rapidly assess record confidence and optimize data selection for analytical, operational, and compliance-driven use cases.
