VMware Carbon Black Application Control is an endpoint security agent-based solution that is designed around a positive security model. Unlike a negative security model that defines what an agency does not want to allow in their environment, a positive security model helps the customer define rules for what is approved and allowed in the environment. This is known as allow listing or application control and it eliminates that gray area of exactly how many unknown threats there are and how they are going to behave. Defense Health Agency (DHA) does not need to know how their unknown threats will behave because application control enables them to choose what to allow.
Leveraging cloud reputation services, IT-based trust policies and multiple sources of threat intelligence from VMware Carbon Black Cloud, Carbon Black App Control ensures that only trusted and approved software is allowed to execute on an organization’s critical systems and endpoints. Implementing Carbon Black App Control begins with assessing the agency’s environment, data centers, infrastructure and workforce locations to help determine how many app control servers need to be used.
