Election Security:
Protecting the Foundation of Democracy

Between concerns over public health at the ballot box and threats to our democratic process from foreign actors, maintaining secure elections has never been more important. That's why Carahsoft and FedInsider produced this four-part webinar series, Election Security: Protecting the Foundation of Democracy. Watch the series now to learn from actual state and local agencies how they assessed threats, implemented secure digital infrastructure, and prioritized voter safety to make the November 2020 election the most secure in American history.

The Threat Landscape 2020

The American way of life suffered severe disruption as the recent pandemic swept the globe. Democratic elections, a fundamental pillar of our government, have been impacted as presidential primaries were postponed and election officials across the country revised the election process for the safety of citizens and election workers alike.

Foremost in this planning is a laser-focus on securing the digital infrastructure, electronic databases, and ease of the election process.

The Digital Infrastructure

A fair and free election process is a hallmark of American democracy, and Federal, state and local government officials are working together to secure America’s election infrastructure from new and evolving threats.

This election infrastructure ranges from voter registration databases and voting systems to IT systems such as the counting, auditing, and displaying of election results, and post-election reporting to certify and validate results.

The Voter Experience

Voters across the country expect uniformity in their electoral experience. Factors that directly impact the voter range from privacy for the voter and ballot secrecy to presentation and interaction modes such as enhanced visual and tactile controls.

The 2020 election will tap the significant technological change that is occurring to enhance the voter election process and ensure that voter confidentiality is protected. Technology security requirements call for two-factor authentication for critical voting operations, and cryptographic protection.

2020 and Beyond

Election officials throughout the country, armed with cyber-trooper support from Washington, went on the offensive this year and staved off significant cyber penetration of the election process.

Threat hunters were able to help American authorities study foreign cyber-operatives, identify their targets, learn more about their practices and even study the malware they use.

This webinar explored cybersecurity, now and in the future, and its impact on America’s election process.
