F5 DoD Virtual User Group - How to Series"

Event Date: October 27, 2022
Hosted By: F5 & Carahsoft

F5 and Carahsoft attended the F5 DoD Virtual User Group (VUG). With F5 | NGINX and Rancher Manager, attendees learned how to deploy and manage Kubernetes clusters in production, at scale, or on any infrastructure across hybrid environments. In this lab, attendees gained hands-on experience and learned to stand up the Rancher Kubernetes Engine 2 (RKE2) and deploy NGINX Ingress Controller.

In this module, attendees followed instructions in a GitHub GIST to configure and deploy Rancher’s Kubernetes Engine 2 (RKE 2). This module covered the different parts of the Cluster Manager interface and then used the Rancher Manager to stand up the RKE 2 cluster. Once the cluster was active, attendees deployed a lightweight load balancing solution and finally installed the NGINX Kubernetes Ingress Controller.

Topics covered in this module were:

  • How to automate your Kubernetes operations
  • DevSecOps philosophy
  • Continual production readiness – enhanced Performance & Security (PerfSec)
  • Integrated codebase
  • Cloud-native security and containerized apps
  • Support - proactive CVE patching, integrated WAF, and service mesh
