Robotic Process Automation's Effect on the Mission
Today’s Innovation in Government Report highlights the government’s IT modernization challenges. Jim Walker, the Federal Chief Technology Officer for UiPath, says implementing robotic process automation can have an almost immediate impact on how an agency improves mission effectiveness.
If I have a process where I can automate all of the emails that come in so that no person has to open an email, that’s only going to take me a week or so to get completely done and tested. Then I can look at another part of my process and my fifteen step process, and if I fix that I can chip away at another 12%. I can do those in two, and three, and four week chunks instead of that traditional waterfall where we spend three months on a requirements document. Then I take it back as a CIO and develop it for three months and bring it back and they go “well that’s not what we described.” Whereas, I just wanted emails to come in and file into our ticketing system. That’s a two week development cycle.
